Former RBI Deputy Governor B.P. Kanungo Appointed Chairman of IIFL Finance Board

IIFL Finance has named Bibhu Prasad Kanungo, former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, as its Non Executive Board Chairman with immediate effect.

IIFL Finance has announced the appointment of Bibhu Prasad Kanungo as the Non Executive Chairman of its Board with immediate effect. Kanungo previously served as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and brings deep expertise in central banking and financial regulation to his new role.

Kanungo began his career at the Reserve Bank of India in September 1982 after qualifying through the Grade B examination. Over the years he held a wide range of responsibilities covering currency management external investments banking operations and the payment and settlement systems. His long association with the RBI provided him with comprehensive exposure to monetary policy and financial system oversight.

He was appointed Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India in April 2017 and also served as a member of the Monetary Policy Committee where he contributed to key policy decisions during his tenure. Following his retirement from the RBI he has continued to remain engaged with the financial sector and currently serves as an Independent Director on the Board of IIFL Finance.

Kanungo holds a bachelor’s degree with honours in history from BJB College Bhubaneswar and a master’s degree in history from Utkal University completed in 1978. His appointment as Board Chairman is expected to strengthen governance and regulatory perspective at IIFL Finance.
