The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the reappointment of Ashwini Kumar Tewari as Managing Director of the State Bank of India with effect from January 27 2026.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has cleared the reappointment of Ashwini Kumar Tewari as Managing Director of the State Bank of India effective January 27 2026. The decision ensures continuity in leadership at the country’s largest lender and reflects confidence in his experience across key banking functions.
In his role as Managing Director Tewari oversees corporate banking and the bank’s subsidiary businesses. He has previously served as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of SBI Cards and Payment Services where he played a significant role in strengthening card and digital payment operations.
Tewari has also led the State Bank of India’s operations in the United States as country head managing branches in major financial centres such as New York and Chicago. Over the course of his career he has handled diverse domestic and international assignments including roles across East Asia.
With deep expertise in corporate banking cards and payments and overseas operations within the SBI group his reappointment is expected to support strategic stability and sustained growth at the State Bank of India.
