B. Sairam Appointed as CMD of Coal India as Sanoj Kumar Jha Retires

Coal India Limited has appointed B. Sairam as Chairman and Managing Director while Sanoj Kumar Jha has retired from his additional charge role effective December 15 2025.

Coal India Limited has announced the appointment of B. Sairam as Chairman and Managing Director of the company. His appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge and will remain valid until further orders. This leadership change marks an important transition at the country’s largest coal producer.

Sanoj Kumar Jha who was holding additional charge of the CMD position has retired with effect from December 15 2025. His retirement concludes his tenure overseeing the responsibilities of the top executive role at Coal India Limited.

Before this appointment B. Sairam served as Chairman and Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Limited a wholly owned subsidiary of Coal India Limited. He brings more than three decades of experience in the coal sector with strong expertise in mine operations project planning logistics regulatory management and community development initiatives.

Earlier in his career Sairam held the position of Director Technical at Central Coalfields Limited where he was responsible for coal logistics First Mile Connectivity projects forest and environmental clearances and the development of greenfield and brownfield mining projects. During his tenure at Northern Coalfields Limited he played a key role in structuring project financing establishing compensation and rehabilitation frameworks for large expansion projects and accelerating regulatory approvals for critical mining operations.

With his extensive operational and leadership experience B. Sairam’s appointment as CMD is expected to support Coal India Limited’s focus on operational efficiency regulatory compliance and long term sustainable growth.
