The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Shirish Chandra Murmu as the next Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), effective October 9, 2025. He will take over from M. Rajeshwar Rao, who is scheduled to retire on October 8, 2025.
Murmu, currently serving as Executive Director at the RBI, oversees several critical areas, including administrative functions, regulatory policies, and governance frameworks. Within the Secretary’s Department, he has been instrumental in inter-departmental coordination, regulatory compliance, governance oversight, and internal management.
With his extensive experience in the central banking ecosystem, Murmu has played a pivotal role in ensuring smooth policy implementation, organizational governance, and regulatory supervision—responsibilities that will expand further in his new role as RBI Deputy Governor.
