JK Cement Limited has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Saurabh Chandra, Independent Director of the company, on September 16, 2025.
Chandra was a distinguished civil servant who retired as Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. He also previously held the position of Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DIPP) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Over the years, he held several significant roles, including Public Interest Director and Chairman of the Governing Board at Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd., and served as an Independent Director on the Boards of SBI Pension Funds Pvt. Ltd., Usha Breco Ltd., and Vacmet India Ltd.
Chandra’s career was marked by extensive contributions in policy formulation and implementation across vital sectors such as oil and gas, manufacturing, foreign direct investment (FDI), intellectual property, and disinvestment. His leadership oversaw reforms in FDI and IP policies, the National Manufacturing Policy, diesel price deregulation, PAHAL Scheme, Give Up campaign, hydrocarbon exploration initiatives, and the National Gas Grid.
