Reserve Bank of India approves Nurani Subramanian Vishwanathan’s reappointment as Non Executive Part Time Chairman of Axis Bank for a three year term beginning October 27 2026 subject to shareholder approval.
The Reserve Bank of India has approved the reappointment of Nurani Subramanian Vishwanathan as the Non Executive Part Time Chairman of Axis Bank for a three year term commencing on October 27 2026. The reappointment is subject to shareholders approving his continuation as an Independent Director at the bank’s 32nd Annual General Meeting scheduled for July 31 2026.
Vishwanathan joined the Reserve Bank of India in 1981 as a Direct Recruit Officer and retired as Deputy Governor in March 2020. During his tenure, he supervised key areas including banking regulation, non banking finance, cooperative banking, corporate governance, risk management, human resources and enforcement.
Over the course of his career, he also served as Director of Supervision at the Bank of Mauritius, Chief Vigilance Officer and Head of Internal Audit at IFCI, and a Board Member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India from 2016 to 2020.
At present, Vishwanathan serves as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology and is a Board member of National E Governance Services Limited and SRO FT Development Foundation.
He holds degrees in economics and has completed an executive programme at the University of Cambridge.
