Gap Inc. has announced the appointment of Jody Gerson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), to its Board of Directors.
Gerson, the first woman to lead a major global music publishing company, brings decades of experience in entertainment, culture, and leadership. Since joining UMPG in 2015, she has overseen the signing of global icons such as Adele, Harry Styles, Kendrick Lamar, SZA, and Coldplay, while leading landmark acquisitions of the Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, and Sting catalogues.
Her appointment reflects Gap’s growing focus on music-driven fashion campaigns, including the recent “Better in Denim” collaboration with global pop group Katseye, which has already attracted more than 400 million views worldwide.
Gap said Gerson’s expertise across industries will be critical to advancing its long-term brand and cultural strategy, while reinforcing its commitment to a diverse and dynamic board.
In addition to her role at UMPG, Gerson serves on the boards of the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Ancestry.com, Project Healthy Minds, and the National Music Publishers Association. She is also the co-founder of She Is The Music, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women in the industry.
“Jody is a cultural force in her own right, and her insights into ‘fashiontainment’—our platform at the intersection of fashion, music, and celebrity—are unmatched,” said Richard Dickson, President and CEO of Gap Inc. “Her ability to amplify voices and shape cultural moments will be invaluable as we continue redefining what it means to be an iconic, purpose-led house of brands.”
