Citigroup has promoted 276 employees to Managing Director (MD) roles for 2025, marking its smallest class since 2020. The MD title represents the bank’s highest officer designation.
Nearly 49% of this year’s newly promoted MDs are based in North America, while women constitute around 28% of the cohort. Citi’s markets business led the list with 55 promotions, followed by 45 in the banking division. The promotions come after the markets unit reported a record third-quarter revenue of USD 5.6 billion in October, reflecting a 15% year-on-year increase.
In recent years, Citi promoted 344 employees in 2024, 304 in 2023, 331 in 2022, and 306 in 2021, indicating a continued focus on leadership development across its global workforce.
