Cipla Limited has named Achin Gupta, currently Global Chief Operating Officer (COO), as its next Global Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD), effective April 1, 2026, subject to shareholder approval. Gupta will succeed Umang Vohra, who has decided not to seek reappointment and will retire upon completion of his current term on March 31, 2026.
In addition, Meera Vanjari, General Counsel (Designate), has been appointed as Global General Counsel and Senior Management Personnel (SMP), effective April 1, 2026, succeeding A.S. Kumar, who will complete his tenure on March 31, 2026.
Gupta currently oversees commercial markets, API, manufacturing, and supply chain operations at Cipla. Since joining the company in 2021 as CEO of the One India business, he has driven strong growth across chronic therapies, expanded Cipla’s footprint in underserved geographies, and reinforced its operational and strategic foundations. He holds an M.Tech in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology from IIT Delhi and an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad.
Vanjari brings over 30 years of experience in legal, compliance, and intellectual property (IP) functions, having held senior roles at Glenmark, Johnson & Johnson, Bunge, Kodak, Marico, and Abbott Healthcare. At Abbott, she served as Area Counsel and Member of the Business Advisory Committee, overseeing legal affairs for its India operations. She has been recognised among India’s General Counsel Power List by The Legal 500 and received the Outstanding Corporate Counsel – Pharmaceutical Sector Award.
These appointments mark a new phase in Cipla’s leadership transition as the company strengthens its global growth and compliance strategy.
