South Indian Bank names Canara Bank Chief General Manager Mahesh Muralidhar Pai as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director for a three year term starting October 1 2026.
South Indian Bank has appointed Mahesh Muralidhar Pai as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director for a three year term beginning October 1 2026 following approval from the Reserve Bank of India.
Pai currently serves as Chief General Manager at Canara Bank where he leads the digital banking and innovation vertical. He is also a member of the Boards of Karnataka State Financial Corporation and Canara Bank Securities.
During his tenure at Canara Bank, Pai has led several strategic initiatives including the establishment of the bank’s gold loan business. He has also headed one of the bank’s largest operational zones and contributed to the expansion of its digital banking capabilities and operational excellence.
With nearly three decades of experience in the banking and financial services sector, Pai has built expertise across digital banking, corporate governance, business strategy, treasury, foreign exchange, retail banking, agriculture finance and MSME lending. His professional experience also includes an overseas assignment at Canara Bank’s New York office.
