Jio Platforms appoints Akash Ambani as Managing Director for a five year term effective April 9 2026 subject to shareholder approval
Akash Ambani has been appointed as Managing Director of Jio Platforms for a term of five years effective April 9 2026 subject to shareholder approval. The appointment marks a significant leadership development within the digital and telecommunications business of the Reliance Group.
Ambani currently serves as Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm and is also a member of the board of Jio Platforms. He joined the board of Reliance Jio Infocomm as a Non Executive Director in 2014 and was elevated to Chairman in June 2022.
At Jio he has been actively involved in the development of technology driven products and services across areas such as 5G artificial intelligence blockchain and the Internet of Things. He is also part of the RJIL Executive Committee and Product Leadership Group overseeing digital applications and service innovation.
Ambani has contributed to the launch of products including JioPhone and has played a role in expanding digital connectivity and services across India. In addition he serves on the board of Reliance Retail Ventures.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Brown University and has been involved in driving digital transformation and technology focused initiatives within the Reliance ecosystem.
